Mfuwe Lodge is The Bushcamp Company's established gateway to South Luangwa National Park. Set between two lagoons just inside the park entrance, it offers thatched chalet accommodation and shared areas where guests can watch the surrounding habitat between guided outings. The operator describes eighteen chalets, including family rooms and suites, plus a family house.
The lodge is known for wild elephants that sometimes walk through reception during the mango season. This is a natural behaviour, not an arranged encounter, and visitors should treat any sighting as a privilege rather than a booking guarantee. A pool, spa and air-conditioned accommodation add comfort after time in the bush. Mfuwe works both as a standalone safari stay and as the beginning or end of a more remote Bushcamp Company circuit. Its year-round operation also makes it relevant when seasonal bushcamps are unavailable, although the activities and landscapes change through the year.
Why stay here and how to plan your stay

The operator lists an approximately 45-minute road transfer from Mfuwe Airport. Coordinate arrival details directly and request a quote that identifies transfers, park charges, guiding, meals and drinks. If continuing to remote bushcamps, agree the entire circuit and seasonal availability before confirming flights.
Walking safaris and vehicle outings have different requirements; ask about current activity choices and children's eligibility rather than assuming every guest can join every excursion. The operator offers laundry, which helps keep luggage compact. Bring practical footwear and layers, and discuss any mobility requirements when choosing a chalet. Elephant movements near the lodge require patience and staff guidance: do not approach, block routes or position yourself for a photograph without permission from the team. The official page identifies October to mid-December as the typical mango-season period, but wildlife timing varies. Spa sessions and any special activities should be checked for extra charges in the final booking terms.
