Weather can change the order of a visit, particularly when a mountain outing is involved, so leave a flexible day rather than placing every essential experience into a tightly booked sequence. The city also makes a useful contrast with a safari, provided the transfer between regions is treated realistically. Choosing a base should begin with the places you intend to visit and the transport you will use.

Table Mountain National Park stretches across different landscapes and visitor areas; it should not be treated as one attraction with one entrance and one ticket. A mountain excursion, a Cape Peninsula drive and a coastal walk have different planning requirements. The most satisfying itinerary gives each enough time and avoids assuming that every stop on a popular route can be covered in a single day.

How to get there

A safari extension elsewhere in South Africa normally needs a separate transport plan; do not count a flight day as a full day available for sightseeing.

Let the season shape the balance between outdoor time and indoor cultural visits. Mountain access and exposed coastal activities can be disrupted by weather even during a generally favorable season. Keep the mountain day movable and check the relevant operator's same-day status before departure.
